    Garmin G1000 Cockpit

    Hi all,

I'm new on the forum and was just wondering if anyone has built or has attempted to build something similar to this http://www.glass-cockpit.org/

If anyone has any info on the process to build this or something similiar I would be very interested. I currently fly a Cessna 206 with the g1000 cockpit and would like to build my own sim to help reduce costs practicing IFR etc...

    Thanks,
    xdefiantx

    Hi,

Yes I am building a Garmin 1000 at this time.
Depending on how realistic you want to go you can build it complete hardware or use touchscreens.

Yes, you can build one of those. What is the cost of the first one you linked to?

    EDIT:
I think they are just offering the software and not the hardware. Free Open Source.

I'm not sure on the cost of the one on the site in German.. But would preferably like to build something like it.. E.g.. Hardware based with a backend into Microsoft FS to get the airport database and outside world visuals to pipe through to a data projector I have.

    It can be done.
What do you have to start with?

FS X .. Computer powerful enough to run it.. I don't have any other hardware to connect any USB or keybord inputs to the PC.

What would be the best setup to get all the required outputs from a hardware based g1000 panel to do something usefull in FS ?

You will need a screen, and a bunch of PC Mount buttons and a couple of encoders. Then you will need to build them all into a frame and hook it up to a USB input card. I highly reccomend Leo Bodnar's card for this.

When you get all that, let us know and we can begin to walk you through the design process for your new panel. Also, I suggest you get this software, its free and is made for panel design.

This will be enough to get you started.

Thanks AndyT. Ill have a play about with the panel designer and also get some actual measurements from the plane that I fly and base my designs off that.

    Cheers,
