    update on the motion project.

I promised to keep you all updated on our first motion sim project, so here are 2 video's we made recently.

The Platform will accomodate a projection dome, full 737 shell, instructors cabin and a balcony.

Over the next few weeks we will be placing the shell and instructors cabin..

The sim is being custom build for Simsensation (www.simsensation.nl).

Simsensation will be using this sim for both training professionals but also for renting to the casual simmer. More information on simsensation on their website: www.simsensation.nl

Simsensation is located at Lelystad Airport, right next to the Aviodrome Museum, location of the yearly FSweekend Event.

The 6 DOF platform is manufactured by MOOG.

Moog is one of the market leaders in the motion industries and its platforms are being used in level-D sims from CAE and FlightSafety International.

More information on MOOG and their motion solutions can be found here:

Re: update on the motion project.

Darn, . .that looks sweet, ..... but I have a question, how will you do the visuals later. I mean, if you're in a motion simulator the horizon will be fixed and you will move in relation to the horizon, just like in a real plane. When using a flight simulator that is taken care of by the software and you are 'tilted' as it were and the horizon is fixed.

I have often wondered how that's done.

Re: update on the motion project.

    @ Matt & Joe: Thanks guys !
@ Capetonian: The entire shell will be covered with a projection dome. Projected horizon will be relative to shell position.

Besides, unlike what people commonly believe, the motion platform of pro sims do not move all the time and they certainly dont simulate the aircrafts physical position in the simulation. Motion is only used to simulate g-forces.

Most budget and semi pro motion platforms just read the aircrafts position in flightsimulator en put the platform in the same position.

In a level-D sim this does not happen. For example in a aircraft banking to the left, the platform of a level-d sim will bank to the right ! (picture yourself driving a fast car in a left turn....you are being pushed to the right).

MOOG the supplier of our platform also supplies CAE and Flightsafety International with the platforms for their level-D sims. Our platform will be using similar software using physical data to simulate g-forces and not just bank the platform accordingly to the aircrafts position in FS.

Re: update on the motion project.

Another update on the motion project....just a few pictures.

Shell placed on the motion platform, instructors cabin is finished. The sim will take 2 pilots in the shell and 2 people in the instructor cabin. Started building the structure for the projection dome.

The back of the instructorscabin with the balcony. The balcony will have air stairs.

Looking in from the back with the 2 Ipeco's + J-rails just fitted. Interiors are partially fitted.

A view from the front. Sorry for the bad quality, taken with my phone.
ICS interface system and gauges have been fitted. The ICS interface is modular and eliminates the need for wiring switches, annunciators, etc. Very failsafe this way and the modular system is perfect for maintenance.

Captains side. Ipeco seat with j-rails fitted. This is the newer electrically adjustable model, an option on the 737. It can be adjusted manually and electrically. Same seats are used on the 747/400.
    Interiors are partially fitted.

    First Officers Office:

Close up on the interior trim

    Panels, glareshield and glarewings fitted.

    Next on the list:

    • Finishing Interiors

    • fitting screens

    • testing interfaces and computers

    • fitting airconditioning

    • finishing instructors station

    • TESTFLYING !
