    Pushback + L/R turn

    Hi,

I'm running FSX with some airport scenery. In both cases I have the same problem. When performing a pushback+L/R turn, the aircraft is NEVER properly lined up.

Does anyone have an idea on how to solve this?

    Thanks
    Geert

From my experience on FS9 you have to just predict the throw distance of the plane and hope it will align on the taxiway centreline. It doesn't always but when i power up for the off i'm back online in a sec anyways.

It's ok to judge the turn to stay on the taxiway itself - very difficult to have the nosewheel exactly on the centreline.

I could be wrong on this, but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the pushback and L/R keys work like this: If I press SHIFT-P to start the pushback and immediately press the 1 or 3 key, the plane will back up one plane-length before turning to the left or right.

In the above example, if my aircraft is 200ft/61m long, the pushback will be 200ft/61m straight back, then a turn to the L or R.

BUT, if I press SHIFT-P, let the aircraft back up for a while, THEN press L/R key, the plane will continue to back up straight for one plane-length, then turn. I always the pushback function wasn't working until I heard this. Now it makes more sense.

You can download a pushback/taxi guage which, although not doing exactly what you wish, may be helpful to you. It is for FS9 only as far as I remember. It can be found in the avsim library. Search for file "rcbgh-40"
Hope this is of help to you.
Sorry just noticed you are using FSX. Does the payware AES not do exactly what you are asking?

In principle this is correct. But the turn will start when the nose gear reaches the point where your main gear was when you pressed the turn key

    Pushback

I use the FSCopilot Pushback tool. That lets you select small, medium or heavy distance and degree of turn. Or indeed, and p/b distance you like. I find with that that if my aircraft is a medium on a medium gate, the medium p/b leaves me more or less bang-on on the taxi line. Depends how good the scenery is I guess!

It's free to download and available for FS9 and FSX.
