    Yes you can engrave and cut on one machine. Most hobby level CNC routers use a wood working router for the spindle, as long as the run out on the spindle is within reason you should have no problem using that for both cutting and engraving. One word of warning though when engraving with a router, the work has to be extremely flat otherwise you will end up cutting deep in some places and shallow or not at all in others. A lot of the high end panels you see engraved (and that look so good) were done with a laser cutter. I'm not saying it can't be done on a cnc router it just takes proper setup and prep.
