    From the Michigan newcommer...

Hmmm...it would appear that the Welcome Wagon must have a flat tire. Or perhaps it isn't the right week for a Michigan run.

No matter; I guess we'll skip the introduction stuff and I'll just proceed as though I know what I'm doing...that should prove to be interesting.

    Best to all,
    Garry

    Hi John, and thanks...

Actually, the XML stuff may not be solved here anyway, unless you guys have a bona fide XML guru in the crowd. However, I think I've got some help coming from the panel-design wizards on AVSIM. I'm making a standalone windshield-wiper gauge in XML, that's what it's all about. I'll share it on here, of course, if I ever get it working right. Usually it's done in the modeling process (when it's done at all, and it mostly isn't done at all)...but that locks it to a single aircraft: I want something that can be plugged into any aircraft or vehicle, just like a fuel gauge, altimeter, airspeed, whatever. I'll get it, sooner or later.

Anyway, about cockpits: I almost regret coming here to this forum, in a way, because I'm fearful that the blasted "Cockpit Bug" will bite me again! I had a total blast building that contraption I did back in (?) 1994, something like that. And I still have all the pieces, too...which makes it even more tempting to fire it back up!

But the virtual airline keeps me pretty well occupied, so I'll probably take some pictures and stick 'em in your classifieds for anyone who might be interested. Another intersting thing happened from that little adventure: I sometimes deal with a salvage company in Florida. Well, I called him back then to see if maybe he had some general nonsense stuff laying around; switches, LEDs, knobs, you know the drill. A week later UPS pulls up with 318pounds of everything under the sun for projects like this! I'll probably stick that stuff in classifieds, too.

Take care, thanks for the welcome...I'm sure we'll chat again soon.

    Hi Geremy:

Yeah, contagious works. So does "consumming". When I started on mine, just about everything in my whole life took a back seat until things started coming together. I'm single and I own my own business, so I was able to get away with it...sort of. But still, things suffered. And then one day I discovered that my monstrous efforts (to me, anyway) were a pimple on an elephant's back compared to what SOME guys put into building one!

I have to admit, though: It was an incredible amount of fun to do, and to use. I think I'll have a good time here, and having done one from scratch, maybe I can even prove to be helpful here and there with newcomers.
