    Exclamation Strange phidgets problem

    Hi,

I have build a TQ using phidgets components. I have a strange problem. Whenever the trim works (up or down) throu relay card, I lose the servo card usb connection. When the trim stop's then the usb connection comes back again. This makes the throttles to go up and down at AT mode.

    Possible problems that I thought.

1.) Not enough power to servo card when trim motor works ?
2.) Trims make the servo card to shake and lose connectivity ?
3.) All phidgets cards for TQ are installed in a usb hub and create problem with power?

    Can it be another problem?
    With best regards,
    Achilles

    Achilles,

Are you powering the throttle levers separately?

Its not advisable to power heavy duty servos directly form Phidgets card,
you should use a separate power source.

Also trying connecting Servo card to different usb port...maybe direct to the computer may help?

    Hi Nat,

I supply 12Volt for the trim motor throu relay card and 5Volt for the throthles, spoiler throu the servo card. The ground is common.

I did not yet test to change usb port because the tq is far away from the pc so I use usb hub

    So,

It is not case 2 for sure because I test it.

Two possibilities - first is USB voltage provided by the hub is pulled down by the additional current required by the relays. If the USB voltage goes below approx. 4.6V, the phidgets will reset until it comes back up.

The other possibility is Electromagnetic interference from whatever you are switching with the relays. There is a tutorial here -

    Re: Strange phidgets problem

I think it's your common ground... you may be getting some feedback through the ground.
