Pix of my Cessna 172 project

Here are a few of the pix I just posted in the GA photo gallery of my C-172 simulator. Next step is building an enclosure.

Fine piece of work. I like the use of a touch pad good idea. Your setup seems really quite solid. Do you have any plans for the future?

    Great work..

    Hi...is your glareshield pipe insulation?

You can get the same results using styrofoam!

    Cheers,

Re: Pix of my Cessna 172 project

Alex Jay - yes, it is pipe insulation. Cheap, self adhesive and looks ok for now. I would like to eventually replace it....Please let me know if you have some suggestions on how to build one from styrofoam.

Ronson2k9 - Future plan is to replace the glare shield and build some type of enclosure. I have purchased some PVC pipe and polystyrene sheets to build a prototype. I also have a Phillips Ambx "ambi-light" I would like to try to figure out a way to integrate as well.

Re: Pix of my Cessna 172 project

Hi For glareshield out of styro, is easy!

    Use a 50mm thick sheet of 4' x 1' blue foam.

Draw on shape of complete glareshield (aprox 1.5" thick)

Cut out using bread knife or coping saw, dont bother with hot wire cutter as it is added expense (unless you have one or can make one cheap)

Sand all corners of glareshield smooth, prime with white emulsion twice, spray with black paint or textured black paint, DO NOT COVER with vinyl or leatherette as it you will have to include a 'crease' at one point when you cover it, this crease will ruin the whole thing!

Screw a few screws into the glaresheild from the MIP or use a heavy weight glue, but make sure the glue doesnt melt the polystyrene, The glareshield will be light weight so just a few screws and a little glue will do the trick!

Mount LEDs into the glareshield to give light to the MIP (optional)!

That should do the trick my friend!

Thanks Alex. I am really looking forward to redoing the glare shield. I love the idea of installing the lights as well!
