Question Monitor size for PFD, MD, EICAS and computer type.

I was wondering what is the best monitor size for Project Magenta's PFD, MD and EICAS. I am also going to purchase $299 computers for this set-up. How many do I need and what size monitor.

    Thank you,

Hello APOPilot. The question you ask is not an easy one to answer. Monitor size is going to depend on what you plan to do for a MIP. I think a 19" wide LCD would work for Pilot's and FO's and a 15 -17 standard for the EFIS. Now computers, PM does no take a lot of horsepower to run BUT!!! It does need completly Open GL compaitable! Nvidia is probably your best bet. The best thing would be to see if you could run the demo on one of the machines you plan to purchase and see how it works.

I am using 2 19" Wide TFT by ACER (1916W - Wide) for the Pilot and Copilot PFD/ND an HP 15" for the Upper Eicas and a 10.4" LCD TV with a VGA input for the lower EICAS.

But all depends on how yor MIP is Build.

I am starting to build a 737NG from FDS. I would like to start off with these basic computers and have a mock set-up before the FDS flightcenter arrives. However, I want to make sure I have the right monitors.

    Thank you,

    Abe

    I think Chris's set-up is pretty close...

This is a very difficult thing to do... making assumptions before you have the panels... I've been there... more then once.

I suggest, as Chris... use 19" for the Cpt and F/O. For the Eicas, temporarily use another 19". Once you have the Eicas panel you'll know exactly what you need. If you decide to use other monitors for the Eicas, I'm sure you'll find a use for the extra 19", such as a Instructor Station

Since you're using FDS MIPS, and if you've got them ordered, check with Peter Cos for measurements, I'm sure he'll give them to you.

Just a note seeing Chris post on Acer monitors. These have been very successful in the sim community and come highly recommended.

I see that TigerDirect has them on sale for $159.99 after $50.00 rebate.
