linear or llogarithmic
Sorry. I now know the diff. What about sliding pots. Is that the name for them?

You would normally use linear. Log. are for audio stages, and you need linear for controls such as brakes, joystick etc.

A logrthmic potentiometer will have a gain unproportional to it's movement.
In other words, if you turn the pot at a constant rate, it will increase the amount of volume(or whatever it's hooked up to) faster that you turn the knob. I won't get into why it does this. But it does.
A linear pot will increase (or decrease) the amount of gain or volume (or whatever it's hooked up to) exactly how far you move the pot shaft.
Linear is what you want for throttle controls, landing spoilers, flaps, etc.
There is little use for an 'audio taper' pot in sim building.Boeing Skunk Works
