    Magneto Starter Switch

    Hi

Can anybody recommend an alternative to the Simkits magneto starter switch.

Either home made or as part of a switch panel (not Saitek)

    Thanks

    Re: Magneto Starter Switch

A simple SPST On/Off Key Switch and wire the 'on' to your joystick card and assign to 'AUTO START' so when you turn the key the engine starts...

    Seemples!

Wouldn't bother with real magnetos switches, just use a key switch, does the job nicely or use some sort of potentiometer with 5 poles.....

    Cheers.

    Re: Magneto Starter Switch

I am using a Desktop Aviator panel currently for my electric panel.
    http://www.desktopaviator.com/Produc...1010/index.htm

It needs a registered copy of FSUIPC to work with all functions, but has been easy to set up and use. It includes a 5 way key switch and keys!

Once I complete my MIP I will be adding it to the panel, and doing a few modifications to make it more real.

    Hope that helps....

I used the drawing on the simkits site to make one, it's very descriptive and not difficult to make. You can get a keyswitch from Maplin or any decent electronic supplier. The rest is spare hardware you've probaly got lying around.

    Hope this helps.

    Re: Magneto Starter Switch

What about a car ignition switch from the wreckers?

It has a number of poles such as acc, off, on, start. There maybe ones with extra positions.

Wire it up to your card, use FSUIPC and its working.

    Re: Magneto Starter Switch

Why not find a real one on ebay ?

I got mine for 25$ from ebay.

Theres one listed now for 50$, but if you are patient, they do come by cheaper:

I still think that a simple £2 key switch on a pot is easier and cheaper than buying a real cessna key switch....just my thoughts though!

    Re: Magneto Starter Switch

    Steve,

I used a simple 12 position rotary switch and set the "doodad" that limits it to use only the first 5 poles. Hooked it up to a Bodnar board and works like a charm. Only thing missing is the spring to return it to the Both position after the engine starts. I return it to Both manually to keep the physical switch in sync with the switch on the panel. Photo attached shows it in place beside Master Switch before I added labels for positions of switch.

    Cheers, Dave
