Some help getting started with CNC
Hello,
So I finally went ahead and purchased a Zenbot CNC machine with a Hitachi M12VC router. I downloaded some software and been playing around with it.
I want to try to make overhead panels. Any recommendations on what material and thickness to use? white acrylic?
Also any recommendations on bits for the cutting and engraving those kind of panels?
Brand new to this so any tips will be greatly appreciated! Machine should be here in a few weeks.
Thank you!-fabian

Hi there !
If you are going to backlit the panels you shoud sandwich clear and white acryl.
Check panel making by Per-Eric : http://www.hoddo.net/cnc.html

Bits you'll need 1.5mm for button holes, 3mm and 6mm for pocketing and various engraving bits for text.
I have bought mine form www.sorotec.de, i assube they can ship to U.S. as well.
Good luck !

Re: Some help getting started with CNC
The only advice I can give you, as I'm also getting started is...
Unless you have a lot of patience, make the initial investment in the software. A lot of free stuff out there, but I found that I spent more time trying to make all the various programs to go from concept to CAD/CAM to G-Code to product, than actually running the machine.
The other advice... get a vacuum system if you plan to cut MDF.... It generates a TON of dust. I'm still cleaning up MDF dust in the garage (under close direction from the wife).
