RE: KLM accident in Barcelona
Hi Stamatis,
While awaiting Jaap, I did a quick Google to see if there was anything on
the web.
http://www.b737.org.uk/accident_news.htm
Quite a lot of photo's of it here
http://myaviation.net/search/search....earch=ACCIDENT
ACK-CHOO-ALLY, I did check out simpilot.net as they are the galactic
authority on aviation, but no mention. Headline is "Malaria in Dominican
Republic". I wonder if the World Health Organisation is aware?

Re: KLM accident in Barcelona
Thanks Steve.
But even the link says: "It remains unclear what caused the problem."

RE: KLM accident in Barcelona
Stamatis,
Did you read the part starting,
"An unverified source (on PPRuNe) gave the following information:"
Dum-de-dum etc.
Still not 'the' answer, but if you follow the links, it 'might' have been a
bird strike damaging the nose gear. But I hate speculation, so will stop
before I accuse myself of it

Re: KLM accident in Barcelona
Stamatis,
I haven't heard anything official, but the birdhit causing damage to
the nosewheelstrut seems like a logical explanation.
By coincidence we were on the way to Toulouse when we heard Maastricht
ACC talk to the Barcelona flight, to tell them that the runway in
Amsterdam was checked, and that only small fragments of bird were
found. That's normal after an aircraft had a birdhit. Laughing the
pilot replied that the biggest part of the bird must then still be on
board.
I can imagine that the bird (a buzzard) caused damage to the steering,
maybe it was stuck in one position. At high speeds you have sufficient
rudder force to keep the aircarft on the runway. Once the aircraft
slows down...
But it also could easily be that the bird had nothing to do with it.
I was in Barcelona a week later, and saw the aircaft on jacks, like in
the pictures. The damage seems minor, but I heard they're not sure if
it's a total write off or not. Are you looking for cheap cockpit parts?

Hi Jaap,

In this case I could be looking for a cheap... B737-400!
