    Linear rod advice.

    Hi All,

I am building a 13" x 13" cnc machine by precisely following a set of plans and instructions.

I would like to know if my linear steel rods can be replaced by hollow steel tubes. The amount of money saved is around half.

I would like to know if steel tubes can be incorporated into a cnc machine instead of steel rods.

Has anyone ever seen a linear steel tube with bushing in a cnc before?

    Thanks.

    Re: Linear rod advice.

    Hi Alex

I would stick with the hardened steal rods as they will keep your machine more rigid, where as hollow tubes do tend to bend a little.

Hardened rods are only around £2.00 for 100mm depending on the thickness from certain suppliers.

    Good luck with your build

    Cheers

    Sean.
