4,3" wide LCD screens
Hi!
Has anyone an idea how to interface a TFT screen with VGA? I have found at Reichelt Elektronik here in Germany a 4,3" 16:9 LCD screen that can be used to make a GNS430 unit also very cheap cost only around 50,-Eur.
I have checked the usual suspects earthlcd and avionicslcd but they have only 5,6 and 3,5 displays. i have one 10,2" LCD kit from earthLCD with which i intended to make a G1000 but i am not so sure if i can use the VGA hardware to interface those smaller screens.
Cheers!
Jan

Re: 4,3" wide LCD screens
Hi Jan
is this the model you refer to
EA EDIP-TFT43ATP :: TFT-Grafikdisplay 10,9cm 480x272 mit Intelligenz
if so it has some unusual interfaces I2C, RS232, and SPI bus, can't see how you connect this to VGA.
You can get a 5inch here which will connect direct to your PC VGA output that's 5 inch diagonal which is 4x3 inches I think.
Accelevision LCDP5VGA 5 Inch LCD Universal Monitor with VGA Input
The size of screen has nothing to do with the interface. VGA simply refers to the pixel density and the electrical hardware used, so as long as what you buy says VGa then it's OK to connect to your graphics card.
But what about the usual Playstation PS1 screens which everyone uses for their FMCs, which are approx 4 inches by 3 inches and can easily be interfaced to your PC using a VGA to RCA adaptor, all from ebay and cheap!
regards

Re: 4,3" wide LCD screens
Hi Geoff,
Thanks for the reply! Actually I was looking at this one:
TFT-Display 10,9cm (4,3) ohne Touch Panel, 480x272 WQVGA
The beauty to that is that to my calculations the GNS430 Unit screen almost exactly matches this size. The problem i have is how to interface it, I guess I need a VGA controller board that can do the job. i have already inquired with Ginsbury who seem to be the guys who can supply that. Anothe solution would come from Car entertainment solutions where they offer these displays with normal "TV in" SVIDEO connections, i guess I could easily use a VGA adaptor here as well - however i would prefer the VGA or even better USB monitor connection.
Cheers,
Jan
