Hello every body -

I am new to this world of flight simulators. I have been reviewing that many sites I am almost confused which isn't hard to do. I am 66 years young at the end of this month.I started to fly at age 16 years through the R.A.A.F. Air Training Corpes, at Moorabbinn Airport where at that time it was an all over field with a very small area of sealled runway, nothing like it is today. I learnt on Chipmonks and Tigermoths. At that time when my hours reach the alloted amount I ceased flying. As I was an apprentice electrian with a very, very small wage.When I reached 18years I was required to leave the A.T.C. & I was about to join the R.A.A.F.Reserve when they cut out flying for Reserve pilots. I joined a Commando unit where I jumped out of good serviceable A/C. I did that for 10 odd years, In the intermin I returned to flying this time in modern A/C to an unrestricted pilots licence this was 1964. I studied for a Commercial licence and remained flying up to 1998, then my health took a noise dive. I miss not bering able to fly, however I am now attempting to continue by trying to build a flight simulator. I am not a modern jet person, I have decided to go for a Beechcraft Baron 58.The ones I have seen have been so brilliant, being retired on limited finance we will see. You people are so clever . I hope that this short story will give you all an insight to me. One request - "Can I count on assistance please."

Mumbles, what a great history you have shared with us. I bet you could tell some stories...

So that we can be of the utmost help to you, can you give us a few bits of info so that we can have a better idea of what you hope to attain? Here are some points to ponder. Do you want:

*A full (meaning two seat/two yokes) Barron 58 OR a single seat/single yoke cockpit for just one person

*A full visual system with 3 or more projectors, or large LCD displays

*Real-looking analogue type instruments, or an LCD display covered by bezels (which is much more affordable)

These are some basic questions that are really good to start off with, because it gives everyone here an idea of what amount of work and items will be needed to get you started.

Mumbles, welcome to the mad house! We all started something like you are right now. Lots of questions and looking very unattainable. Most of us where not electronic experts (and still are not!) but as our project grew, so did and do our skills! Start slow and allow it to grow. Start by getting a desktop setup going. Get a yoke and some rudder pedals and then fly for a bit. Then start out where your skills are greatest. Skills you don't have see if you can get a friend to help in that area. Trust me if not for a friend of mine my construction would not look as good as it does. And yes please feel free to ask questions here that is what mycockpit was built for... Builders helping builders! And pictures yes PLEASE share them. Even ones you do not see as important to others. If you have a desktop sin already I would love to see pics and see how you have set it up. And remember it is all about the flying... Never stop flying even while you are building!

As long as you are considering a Baron, you might also consider the King Air. There is a full suite of analog guages available for the King Air. I forget the company name but I have it bookmarked if you are interested.
