PM Sounds
Hi, on a previous thread i decided to download PM sounds, however all installed. Menu came up with the list of sounds as usual however how do you actually get the sounds into Flight sim 9. I have all the sounds selected. Do you have to have a full flight plan. because i have only tried it on free flight.
THe only solution i can think of is when installing it did i need to put it into flight simulator 9 folder. I didn't do this it just made its own PM folder and i assumed that would be fine.
Can anyone advise?

PM Sounds doesnt go into FS9's folders. See here from the PM website:
"pmSounds is a program that generates sounds and callaouts depending on various flight situations. This software was made to run with our other flight management software, but it can also be used without other Project Magenta components. This is not an adventure, not an FS module... it can be run in parallel to FS on the same PC or on a networked system. You can switch certain sounds on and off at any time. More Project Magenta Products can be found here."
Please note:
to install pmSounds simply run the Setup program and follow the steps you see on the screen, the program will create its own folder and a subfolder containing the sound files.
pmSounds might not run with some sound cards when used on the same PC as FS
pmSounds should not be installed within any of the FS folders, it runs independently from FS, on the FS computer or on a computer in a network using WideFS
pmSounds requires FSUIPC
Simply install it per the instructions, and then fire up FS9. Fly your aircraft, and voila, it should work. I dont know if there are any limitations on what aicraft it will work with, but it works great with the default Learjet45. Some sounds may be duplicated, and will need to either be deleted (backup first though!) from your FS9 sounds, or uncheck them from the PMSounds box. An example is the Autopilot Disconnect sound. When you disconnect the FS9 one sounds off first and just before it finishes the PMSounds alarm sounds off, but a bit louder. One of them needs to be removed.

And the PMsounds program is very clever. It can be programmed so the different sounds can have different volume, You can program each sound to turn on and off when you like it to. And a lot more.
In my cockpit there will be 7 computers to run it all.
On Server computer Microsoft flight simulator will add most of the engine sounds which will be two speakers behind the simulator.
And then I can install PMsounds on the 6 other computers. And install the prefered sounds on each one of them. That mean I can have the shakers on 1 computer, warnings on one computer and so on.
Then I can place the speakers where the sounds should be.
This will be very interesting to learn more about.

Something I have always wanted to try was to run the FS9 EXTERNAL speaker sounds from outside of the sim, in back kinda like the real thing to see how it sounds, but I suspect since we dont have a real fuselage and sound level, having internal sounds will most likely be more realistic. I know that by running WideFS and having multiple copies of FS running you can do this, but I am very happy with running 1 FS server and PM on the clients. No need for multiple FS's running since I am going to use the TripleHead2Go.
Just a thought though!

For those used to using PMSounds, here's some questions:
1) Does a negative value in the sound ini cause it to go lower in volume? I want to heavily reduce the volume of Nbump. It's defualt on my system was about '2'. I put it to '0' and saved, but I didnt notice a difference. Im guessing '-10' will reduce the volume?
2) I am aware that FSX allows for ATC sound to be routed thru a USB headset. Is there anyway to have FS9 ATC route the same? I am aware that Radar Contact can be ran over a network I believe, thus giving the same affect.

Not sure about the negative values. You will probably need to reduce the volume of nbump in a wav file editor (even windows sound recorder can do this). Get it close to the level you want and then use PMsounds to adjust.

PMSOUNDS is a free download from www.projectmagenta.com
It installs EGPWS sounds in flightsim as well as a few extra sounds that may not come with your aircraft sound set.
Just run PMSOUNDS.exe after you run flightsim and enjoy the enhanced cockpit noises.
