Give me some air
Hi,
just finished an air gasper (or air vent) for my 737 captain side, thanks to the idea and advice of Hessel Oosten (a fellow Dutch builder). Added some pics. It's made out of some household stuff to be found at the local DIY store.
Now I was thinking of adding a PC fan behind it to have some "as real as it gets" air. But I guess I can't hook up a PC fan directly to a PC power unit. These fans usually are linked to the mother board. Does any one know how to solve this if I want to connect a fan to an extra PC power unit?
Regards
JWS

Hi,
I would have thought that most PC fans can be wired directly to a PSU in the same way that your hard drive is, if you have a spare plug available, normally they are 12V.
They are not that powerful though.

Excellent work!
How did you connect the different parts? Did you weld them together? Is it possible to move the ball in the outer part to direct the fan?
Cheers

Re: Give me some air
Thanks Chris,
First of all, kudos to Hessel who came with the idea and explained me how he did it.
Actually there isn't a real ball. It is a stop for the end of a curtain rod and it doesn't go any further than the botton plate which originally was a solid round plate with 2 screw holes to fix it against a wall (with the other stop, yes they come in pairs, on the other end of the curtain). The round bottom plate has a thread so the stop can be screwed on to it.
The only thing that can be moved a little to direct the air flow is the ring that fits into the stop. The round plate is glued on the square plate that now acts as the bottom plate (also with a hole in it to allow air through).
So I did not weld this but glued everything together (there are no forces on it so glue should do the trick).

I suppose you would be able to make a map light from this too?
Nice work
