Visualiziation of Flight Simulator
Hello !!!
My name is Ross Jir and Im student of Flight Training Organization (Technical University of Ostrava , Czech ).
My Bachelor thesis is Visualizing (visualiziation) of Flight Simulators .
I dont know lots of about it so I want to ask the professionals (YOU).
1) I have to analyze today simulators.
2) Different methods of visualiziation (LCD or projectors etc)
3) Desing (propose) visualiziation system for our Simulator in our school.
4) How to use (set up - software) this visualiziation system.
Thanks A LOT for any HELP !!!

Re: Visualiziation of Flight Simulator
I think it would be a good idea to explain between commercial and hobby builders. Hobby builders have come a long way in the last decade. I'd also mention some about Paul Bouke's projection experiments. ImmersaView's Sol7 Sim Edition is also a good start for explaining what is now available for hobby builders at 10% the cost of commercial options.

Re: Visualiziation of Flight Simulator
Looking at commercial simulator product lines will give you a good overview of display systems. Frasca is a good start, http://www.frasca.com/web_pages/broc...%20systems.htm If you need more technical information than you can find in the marketing literature, Google patent search is a great resource. http://www.google.com/patents Sales literature often lists the patents covering the products. You can also search using simulator terms like "collimated displays" and "infinity display", the term used when collimated displays were first used in simulators.
The paper "Collimated Displays for Flight Simulation", by A. M. Spooner in the May-June 1976 issue of Optical Engineering describes collimated display technology and lists a few of its limitations.
Also look at presentation systems in general. Don't restrict your research to simulation viz systems only. In particular look at projection systems. Da-Lite, a projection screen manufacturer, has posted years of news letters on its site. If you don't understand screen gain and what limits perceived image contrast, you can't design a system. http://www.da-lite.com/education/ Look at the Angles of View and Angles of Reflection articles.
Projection systems naturally lead into the need for image warping and edge blending hardware and/or software. As mentioned earlier Paul Bourke http://local.wasp.uwa.edu.au/~pbourke/miscellaneous/ and ImmersaView http://immersaview.com/technology are good beginnings. ImmersaView has interesting white papers posted.
You'll probably also want to overview stereographic displays if only to justify not using them. RealD http://www.reald.com/ and Dolby http://www.dolby.com/professional/so...al-cinema.html provide the technology to most US 3D theaters. ColorCode 3D http://www.colorcode3d.com/ and Nvidia http://www.nvidia.com/object/3D_Vision_Overview.html market more affordable stereographics technology for the consumer market.
