F111 Dual control
Hi folks,
I have been constructing a F111 crew module and the dual control I have started to make isnt working real well at all.
I have given up on the rudder pedals at the moment and have focused on the yoke controls.
at this point in time I have two USB contollers, with one as the master. The master is connected to the computerand internal wiring connects the two connectors together.
Mechanically the two yokes are connected by a cross bar, but the full range of movement is very sloppy and large error is evident on the slave side especially in the forward/aft movement.
Can anyone help in a better design.
Kind regards

Re: F111 Dual control
After much toil I have found a solution that suits me and i dare say I will modify it as time goes on.
The problem I found with my old Dual stick control was that forward and aft movement across the two controls created an error at the other side. The sideways movement worked fine and no error was observed.

If you look close at the Control stick the two are connected by a sway bar connected at the bottom of the contol shaft.
My solution was to provide a non-pivoting lateral beam in the yaw axis but allow the pitch axis to rotate.
I had to allow the structure to allign with the control sticks and the pivoting base so the two did not interfere with each others moment.
The lateral beam slid over the existing beam as a tube to allow roll axis to move. You'll see what I mean.
And the darndest thing it actually works!!
They say that the mother of all invention is necessity......I think they're right!!!

As you can see the paint has gone on and the decals aas well. It looks 1 Million dollars to what it did. Unfortunately the display computer crashed half way through the open cockpit day. More work to do....but thats life!!

Re: F111 Dual control
Hi there,
Push pull cables can be very effective such as the type on vehicle or outboard motor throttle controls. Even a simpler idea - I have utilized small pulleys and trace wire to link my rudder pot to the tiller handle on my 737, it works very accurately and trace wire is very strong.
This is how my rudders are linked -

Re: F111 Dual control
Development of high-speed F-111 aircraft needed for a better exhaust system caused. Ejectable crew module was designed to meet this need. ADF force structure in the F-111 has demonstrated the role of conventional strategic deterrent, ADF with total forgiveness to attack strategic targets allowed.
