New CNC Forum!!!
Hi all and welcome to the new CNC forum! (Computer Numerical Control router/milling machines)
With many of our members now using and discussing CNC machines, we thought it would be a good idea to have a new forum header for CNC machining to keep all the threads in one place. Matt Olieman has set up the forum for us as you see and he has already moved some active threads to the forum, thank you Matt!
As a new entrant into the world of CNC machining, I am absolutely enthralled with my machine and the results I can now achieve. I wish I had bought one of these machines years ago, it could have saved me countless hours of hand machining and heartache! It is great to be able to get tips and help from those more seasoned than me, and also to share tips that I have learned in my new 'hobby'.
The next time I see a new cockpit builder asking the "Where do I begin?" question, I will be saying buy a CNC router/mill!!! Thank you to all CNC users for sharing your achievements, knowledge and pictures, keep them coming!
Regards,
Gwyn Perrett

Re: New CNC Forum!!!
Hi Gwyn,
Great idea to have a forum for CNC.Been reading your threads and getting great help.Ive recently built my own bench top machine.Just learning slowly how to do things.
Breaking a few bits along the way.I wished i had bough a machine many years ago.For decades now i have had to cut and file and never been happy with the finish.
Only cut out twp panels so far but really delighted with the results. Please keep the tips and ideas flowing.really helpful for a beginers like me.
Thanks again for freely giving your tips.
Rgds

Re: New CNC Forum!!!
Great to have a seperate CNC forum,
working on my simpit was my excuse to bought a small Sable table,
I was thinking about buying the panels "ready from the shop" now
a few months later I know it was wise to go the milling way,
it opened my horizon about building things I couldn't do before.
My table and software:
Kress 1050-mill
Solidworks-designing
Mastercam-toolpath setting
Mach3-printerport g-code driverWhen once you have tasted flight,
you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward

Re: New CNC Forum!!!
Good idea with the forum, it all sounds so confusing right now! Time to start learning!
Has anyone bought one of those $1k CNC routers from china? Are they any good? Sounds like a good price to me but I don't know what specs I should be looking at. Something to build overhead panels.

Re: New CNC Forum!!!
Hi guys, it is good to have a CNC forum and I'm sure we will all be helping each other out a lot here. I have prepared a tutorial on making backlight panels on the CNC mill using VCarvePro5.5, it should appear on the site next week. I guess the next step is setting up a place where we can share our DXF files etc.
Cheers, Gwyn

(to be honest only by looking at the price)
But have a look at the bright side, with a machine like that you have an accuracy better than 0.1 mm.
and surely can make and remake all the panels you want.
eventually I'll buy another bigger and more solid machine (for milling aluminium and bigger sizes)
but I have never regret stepping in for under 1k. (ready to mill)When once you have tasted flight,

Re: New CNC Forum!!!
I am glad to see a CNC Forum added here on MyCockpit. Well done.
About 90% complete with building my CNC router. Can't wait to see it move for the first time. Maybe next week. The CNC has been taking up all my cockpit building time. But as a reward the CNC is going to do a lot of cockpit building for me once it is completed.
Hope to see some very interesting postings here.Fritz -> Helicopter Cockpit Builder
