Question Cpflight MCP737EL or Open cockpits MCP737NG v2

Im looking at the above mcp's,

Both look good products, just would like to hear peoples opinions before i choose which
    one to go for.

Also open cockpits has the option of without box? I assume this means in basic terms the wires etc will
    be exposed at the back.

I initially aim to use with PMDG737.

    Thanks

    steve

Re: Cpflight MCP737EL or Open cockpits MCP737NG v2

    hi steve......
i've had both. the CPFlight unit is in the cockpit and the OC unit i used on my test rig, both with the PMDG.
both units worked well. pro's and con's with bioth units.
the CPFlight unit now has to use the Flightsim Labs driver to talk to the PMDG. that adds about 100 euro's to cost.
(and will you stay in FS9 or will you eventually migrate to FSX? means another driver and more cost
even 'die hards' like me are now looking at alternatives)
    the OC software is free.

CPFlight MCP much more responsive to inputs and accurate.
i found the OC MCP slow to respond to encoder inputs and didn't like fast urning of the encoders.
    CPFlight Unit is backlit.
    OC unit is not backlit.

however we all have our favourite and for my money i personally prefer the CPFlight unit. but i'm
sure there not everybody would agree. just my 2c worth.

have a great day and good luck....... ian

    Hi Steve

I only have experience with CPFlight, albeit the older USB model. It's a great unit, I would certainly recommend.

Ian mention's the backlighting. This would be the deciding factor in my decision making. With the backlight off, it's really difficult to see what's where in a darkened pit.

Re: Cpflight MCP737EL or Open cockpits MCP737NG v2

I have the o/c one and the lack of backlighting is a real pain, It works flawlessly with pmdg. Like Ian has said when you turn the knobs it takes quite a while. All in all im very happy with my purchase but im building to a budget and with more cash i would have gone for a better option and backlighting. One more thing, I got the "without box" version and the usb lead worked loose from the solder joints, very poor and weak in that area in my opinion. It all comes down to what you can afford. There isn't really exposed wires as everything is in between the 2 pcb's and once its slotted into the glareshield you will have no worries.

Re: Cpflight MCP737EL or Open cockpits MCP737NG v2

Once again Thank you all very much for your replys,
It really helps with my decision making hearing from your experiences.

Ian i have fs9 and fsx installed on my pc, I keep fsx for my vfr flying with generation x scenery and FS9 is what i use for jets (pmdg) and online flying.
I dont have any intentions of fully moving over to fsx at this moment in time.

    Thanks again

Have you tried the CPFLight shop directly? http://www.cpflight.com/sito/purchase/purchase.asp

It says there that they will have more after 31 January, .. that's tomorrow, .. maybe the LH Shop will have them in the next week too
