Using Mirrors with projector to make short throw image
Hi Guys looking for any info regarding using a mirror and projector to create a short throw image set up ... had a Go at a Helicopter simulator at a air show over the weekend and he basically had a full sized Robinson R222 Cockpit enclosed in a Trailler and a Projection system running FS9 all interfaced and running beautifully and immersion sensation from this set up had me swaying in the seat as the copter was flown excellent. he had a projector under the seat focused onto a mirror and the back projected onto i guess a translucent screen arrangment .... Question does any one out there know how this setup is done .. would like to maximse my projector veiw on mt motion sim Cheers

Sorry waanabe, I cant comment on the mirror arrangement other than to look at posts made by Tim Henry (warvet) over at flight deck solutions.com and also at Nic D's setup over there and here too.
However, the idea of a sim in a trailer is something Ive always wanted to do so it would be permanately portable for taking to airshows and such.

Actually there are some good threads regarding mirror set ups here. I recommend a search using "mirror" for the key search word.

Beamer projection with mirror
Hello
We (a small homecockpit builders team) are currently building a 2-man helicopter cockpit. The visual is planned with a beamer and large mirror to shorten the projection distance.
On my BLOG I show the the designed configuration. By the end of October will do the setup in hardware and perform some tests. I keep you informed here, also you might check again the BLOG.

I have a video telephoto lens that you can attach to the output of the projector which will nearly double your screen size w/o quality loss. I don't need it anymore and will sell it if interested.

Hi Valentin sorrry for the delay only just saw your post ...must say thats very well thought out and achievable design you have there very nice indeed, like the way your using and almost Bollt togather construction idea (makes it easier for re-congiuration ) and the simplicity of your control linkages will be keeping and eye on your site thats for sure. i have a cheap projector that i bought off of Ebay. does the job well but now want to try the mirror bounce idea ..Any info regarding the size and type of mirror you are concidering using for this project ??

Mirror-size
Hello
The mirror size has to be BIG. We have one which is 4 feet diagonal, but smaller than 2 feet won't probably do the job. It depends a bit on the projector. Some have a wider angle than others.
Try a standard bathroom mirror. Although the reflective coating is on the back and the lightbeam has to pass the glass substrate first, the quality is ok.
Only experts might see this difference.
So long and up to when we testdrive our setup.

P.S. Main intention of our heli-cockpit is that we can disassemble it and transport the material in a reasonably big car.
